Mental Health
At Belfast Boys' Model School, we prioritise the mental health and wellbeing of our pupils through curriculum-based learning. Our approach is rooted in the Northern Ireland curriculum, where pupils explore mental health topics through Learning for Life and Work and our unique wellbeing period that all Y8 pupils participate in.
However, we go beyond the curriculum to create a supportive environment that nurtures each student's mental wellbeing. To achieve this, we have established a comprehensive whole-school approach that includes:
In-School Counsellors: We are proud to offer dedicated counsellors for each year group from Year 8 to Year 14. These professionals provide individualised support tailored to the needs of each pupil. Additionally, we partner with external support services such as Achieve NÍ and Streetbeat to ensure our students have access to a broad network of mental health resources.
Staff Training: Our commitment to mental health extends to our staff, with key members participating in regular mental health training. This training is reinforced throughout the academic year, equipping our staff with the knowledge and skills to support our pupils effectively.
Intervention Programmes: We collaborate closely with local charities and organisations that run mental health and wellbeing programs, integrating these resources into our preventative curriculum. By working with these partners, we aim to provide students with tools and strategies that support their long-term mental wellbeing.

At Belfast Boys' Model School, we believe that supporting the mental health of our students is essential for their overall development and success, and we provide the resources and support needed to make this possible.
