Fantastic Cup Matches this week...

Under 18s - Irish Cup

The Under 18s defeated neighbours, Blessed Trinity 4-1 in a competitive battle at Solitude yesterday in the Irish Cup. Early dominance on the excellent, newly laid, surface led to numerous opportunities that went unconverted in large part due to the outstanding performance of the opposition goalkeeper. However, in the end the continued pressure resulted in well taken goals from Jodee Galashan, Cameron Cowan (2) and Kyle Ross.

A great squad performance with all the players making telling contributions to a very satisfactory result.

Under 16s - Belfast Cup

The Year 12 pupils continued their winning start to the year with a comprehensive 7-0 win in the Belfast Cup against Methodist College Belfast. The game got off to a cagey start with both teams struggling to keep possession of the ball. BBMS were beginning to build the pressure as the game went on, but Methody were also having success with long direct balls from their goalkeeper.

It took a stand out performance from one player to be the big difference between the two teams in the first half, with Adam Thompson netting a first half hat-trick, showing composure, skill and clinical finishing for all three of these goals and he didn’t stop there.

BBMS came out in the second half much more dominant, they were calm and controlled in possession and they picked their chances to increase their lead, with Adam Thompson scoring his fourth with a well placed header from Adam Crossett’s corner kick. These two were to link up again, with Adam Thompson saving the best for his last, with a sensational goal, controlling the ball on his chest and finishing with a bicycle kick to the top corner.

Not to be outdone, Owen McClelland also contributed to the scoring with some quick footwork in the box and an excellent finish into the top corner. Owen McClelland finished off the scoring with another excellent strike, giving the Methody goalkeeper little chance of stopping it.

It was an entertaining match all round, with a clean sheet for the defence and some superb finishing by the attackers.

They will now face Laurelhill in the Quarter Final of the Belfast Cup in January.

Goals - Adam Thompson (5), Owen McClelland (2)
