Year 8 Rugby

The Y8 rugby squad had their first ever competitive games today against Ashfield. All of the boys played well against a well drilled Ashfield outfit, coming away with some excellent tries and a solid defensive showing. The boys really enjoyed it and are looking forward to their next match. #makingmodelmen

Year 12 Irish Cup

The year 12 pupils got off to a winning start in their Irish Cup competition, beating RBAI 3-1. After nearly two years since their last competitive school fixture, it’s safe to say the boys were delighted to get back playing.

Owen McClelland broke the deadlock for the Model after a well taken corner kick by Adam Crossett. The Model doubled their lead early in the second half through Adam Thompson as RBAI were unable to clear the ball after another well taken corner.

RBAI got a goal back through a passage of good football with a well taken finish from the edge of the box.

The Model composed themselves after this and finished the game off with a header from Adam Thompson after a great cross into the box from Jay Collins. #makingmodelmen

Year 8, A Team

The Year A team had a great game today, played in a friendly and competitive spirit with our local neighbours Ashfield. Ashfield started better, but the Boys' Model finished the stronger to equalise through Samuel Murray and they nearly forced a winner right at the death. A good work out for both sides as they build towards cup games. #makingmodelmen

Year 8, B Team

A disappointing result, but a great effort by the Boys' Model Year 8 B Team today against Aquinas Grammar School A Team. What was already a difficult fixture, was made more difficult by the fact that some players were unavailable due to illness and injury. However, the boys available for selection did not let this hinder their enjoyment for the game or the effort they put in.

The match began in a scrappy fashion as both teams got to grips with each other, but 10 minutes into the first half Aquinas found their rhythm and scored two goals in quick succession. The next 15 minutes of the half saw Boys' Model force some of their quality onto Aquinas' back 4 with some long-range passing that had the Grammar Schools' defenders running towards their own goal. Despite this, the half ended with only a few attempts on the Aquinas goal and a fantastic effort from outside the box making it 3-0 for the Grammar school.

The second half was more of an even contest, with Boys' Model having 4 efforts on goal, with a brilliant block by Aquinas' keeper from Jack Logan, who's shot was destined for the back of the net. Boys' Model tired though in the closing stages and Aquinas added to their tally, winning 5-0 at Mount Pleasant.

The match was played in great spirit, with some great performances from the Boys' Model players, namely Josh Clarke, Dale Robinson, Jack Logan and Curtis Bell. There will be better days ahead as this team get to know each other!
