Last week pupils from the History Club and an A Level class were invited to the Europa hotel for the day to take part in a peace and reconciliation conference which marked the 50th anniversary of the Steel Shutter, a video, filmed in 1972 during the most turbulent year of the Troubles.
The event was hosted by Noel Thompson from the BBC and Michael Montgomery from Peace Fire. After various speakers gave their reflections of the film, the boys got an opportunity to give their perspectives of Belfast in 2022. Dylan Conville, Max McDaid, Reuben Hanna, Jonah Burke, Ross Smith, Joshua Gililland, Jamie Bell and Lafedala Gariba all took part in the discussions and represented their school and communities brilliantly.
