Public Accounts Committee launch report

Tday the Public Accounts Committee, along with Dr Mark Browne, the Permanent Secretary at DE and Sara Long, Chief Executive of EA visited the school to launch their ‘Closing the Gap’ report.

They congratulated the school on the great work being done to support and guide pupils to academic success. The report says that “members of the Committee visited the Belfast Boys’ Model School to see first-hand how the school was using funding and how this was having a demonstrable impact of the academic performance of pupils. The Committee was impressed with the strategies and practices implemented by the school and considers that there is scope for these to be adopted by other schools”.

Today, they also met the Year 12 and 13 boys receiving their GCSE module results for English, Maths and Science. Well done boys, we are so proud of you!

Jordan's Run to Dublin

A staff coffee morning was held this morning in The Brew to raise money for the Renal Unit in Belfast City Hospital. One of our teachers is raising money for this very worthy cause by taking part in a charity run from Belfast to Dublin.

So far, we have raised £293.00 for the Renal Unit, with some people still to donate! This will certainly help Jordan on his way to Dublin!!

Big thanks also to Julie Ann and Margaret who served and to Philip and the ladies for the delicious scones!

Rugby Matches this week....

Year 9

The Year 9 rugby team enjoyed a match against Belfast Royal Academy today. Conditions were perfect for running rugby and both teams obliged, moving the ball quickly in an expansive game.

Scores were tied at half time after a great Model team try, finished by Jack and an excellent individual effort from Jay.

A more experienced Academy side took the spoils with 2 late tries in a competitive and enjoyable fixture.

Year 10

For the Year 10 Rugby team today’s match against Bangor Academy was the first match of the season, and for some the first match for Boys’ Model. In an end to end first half Daniel Botagan scored for the Model with a great run around the Bangor defence to score in the left corner.

Powerful runs from Christian Chrich and Andrew Thompson helped the team charge forward in the tightly contented areas of the pitch, but unfortunately some slick passing and runs led to several tries later in the half and this continued in the second half.

It was a good effort from the Year 10 team and we look forward to the next game.

BBMS Christmas Appeal...

For this year's Christmas Appeal, the staff and pupils donated items to the North Belfast Food Bank. This organisation is part of the nationwide Trussell Trust. Over the past few years, they have experienced a higher demand for families needing support in our local community. We are overwhelmed at what our school has achieved for this worthy cause and we hope we have been able to make Christmas a little brighter for those people who will be receiving them.
